The Jura, a region of forests, lakes and mountains in eastern France north of Geneva is one of France's most beautiful, yet least known corners. A delight for Francophiles - scenic beauty combined with historic interest and distinctive local cuisine and wine - this area is almost unknown in the UK, yet richly rewards the discerning visitor.
Highlights of our tour, from our base at the lakeside village of Malbuisson include Besancon, dominated by its medieval citadel, Ornans, the Vallee de la Loue, Arc et Senans, Arbois, the abbey at Baume les Messieurs and into Switzerland to the historic lakeside town of Neuchatel.
For 2012, in response to comments from several customers, we have amended this tour to 6 nights/7 days, which leaves a full free day in the middle of the itinerary to explore and relax on the lake at Malbuisson.
DAY TO DAY ITINERARY
Day 1: Travel by rail on Eurostar from St Pancras or Ebbsfleet to Paris and onwards to Besancon by TGV. On arrival transfer by coach under tour manager's direction to hotel for check in for 6-night stay on dinner, bed and continental breakfast basis.Day 2: Morning tour of Besancon including the Citadel with afternoon tour to Ornans and the Vallee de la Loue.
Day 3: Full day tour to Baume-les-Messieurs, Nozeroy and Chateau Challon.
Day 4: Full day to relax at your own leisure in Malbuisson and around the lake.
Day 5: Full day tour to Arc-et-Senans and Arbois.
Day 6: Full day tour to Chateau de Joux and Neuchatel.
Day 7: Morning free before transfer to Besancon for return TGV to Paris and onwards by Eurostar to Ebbsfleet or St Pancras.
NB: Exact order of itinerary of this tour may vary according to local conditions and tour manager's discretion.

PLEASE NOTE: As with most trains, passengers are responsible for carrying baggage onto and off the train. Baggage can be stored on overhead shelves or at the entrance to the carriages.Trollies are available at St Pancras and Lille, but bags do need to be carried on to the platform.

PLEASE NOTE 2: Eurostar have changed their upgraded service from September 2010 from "Leisure Select" to a new service that they are branding as "Standard Premier." This service includes the upgraded seating on the train but now includes only a cold, light meal and a drink.
